Three scholarships are awarded to one student each from the Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College Orange and Lamar State College Port Arthur.

The scholarship selection criteria requires recipients to…

• Demonstrate work or experience in journalism, mass communications, advertising, public relations or a related field
• Maintain a grade point average in their major of at least 3.0
• Be a full-time student in their program
• Be in good standing with the university.

Recipient selection is made each spring by the Scholarship Committee of the Press Club of Southeast. Scholarships will be awarded at the annual Press Club of Southeast Texas Excellence in Media awards held the first Friday each June.

The Press Club of Southeast Texas, Lamar State College Scholarships and Press Club of Southeast Texas High School Scholarship seek to fulfill the promise and pursuit of democracy, the laws and spirit of the First Amendment and an inclusive and open media culture in our community.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicants must currently attend or be enrolled in one of these select institutions...
• • Lamar Institute of Technology
  • Lamar State College Orange
  • Lamar State College Port Arthur. 
  • Applicants may apply to one institution only
• Applicants must provide proof and verification of their enrollment status.
• • Applicants can upload a copy of their current tuition invoice and course schedule. 
  • Lamar students can copy this information from their LEA/LUConnect/Banner portal available to all enrolled LU students.
  • Screenshots and images in jpg., .png or .pdf are acceptable.
  • The enrolled applicant’s name must be displayed on all documents.

Scholarships Application Instructions:

• Applicants must complete the application link below completely.
• • Applicants should screenshot or print their form prior to submission. Incomplete fields will result in submissions being disqualified from consideration.
• Applicants must submit a cover letter or essay explaining their desire, experience or career goals in media and communication, including but not limited to journalism, public relations, marketing, media production, art, and graphic design during their attendance at Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College Orange or Lamar State College Port Arthur.
• Applications are to submit any URL to a portfolio of work up to THREE items demonstrating their work in media and communications.
• • Applicants may use any free platform to post examples of their work including WordPress, Weebly, Wix, YouTube, Vimeo etc.
